George Harrison M.B.E.

1943 - 2001

August 2001. George Martin, who many regarded as the 5th Beatle, their record producer and friend, announced to the press that he had spoken to George Harrison.  George told him that he only has weeks to live.  According to George Martin it is as a result of a brain tumour.  I was filled with immense sadness at this news. George is the quiet Beatle. George is the genius to me, the creator of that album full of magic and genius, "All Things Must Pass", now in its 31st year and still as fresh and as original as the day it was "pressed".  Superstars graced his songs - Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Dave Mason, Klaus Voorderman, Bobbie Whitlock and others, but the Album shone with George's genius.  George made many other fine LPs/CDs but this one shines out in the darkness of modern trivia - there isn't an artist chart bound today, can hold a light to George. The photo above is from All Things Must Pass. (2000) CD. I actually think that George was the better of the songwriting Beatles, his were fewer, but of better quality. May your gods bless you George and give you an eternity of happiness in the recording studio's of the hereafter. Some words from one of his songs off the Album seem appropriate:

"There'll come a time
When all of us must leave here
Then nothing Sister Mary can do
Will keep me here with you
As nothing in this life that I've been trying
Can equal or surpass the art of dying
Do you believe me?"

The Art of Dying - George Harrison "All Things Must Pass" 1970 & 2000

Sadly, George passed away on the night of 29th/30th November 2001 in Los Angeles. He left this life at peace with himself and there is not much more we could ask. He will be sadly missed by all true music fans. I hope you have found your paradise George. Don't keep the residents up all night jammin' with John!
